Written Practice for Teachers and Students

  • To complete the task, the teacher and/or students begin by placing the Vowel Practice Page in front of them and the printed Cheat Sheet off to the side opposite their writing hands.
  • The spellings are written at the same time as they are being said. It may be necessary to receive help from a speaker of standard English in order to accurately produce the vowel sounds. The Cheat Sheet should be used until it is no longer needed.
  • Rate can be determined by the formula:
    letters written X 60
    elapsed time in seconds
    = letters per minute

    Example
    56 letters written X 60
    40 seconds
    = 84 letters per minute

  • Proficiency will be 100+ letters per minute.
